Deep Meaning · English
In this harrowing vision, Arjuna witnesses the terrifying aspect of the Cosmic Form (Vishvarupa), where time itself, personified as the voracious jaws of the Divine, consumes all transient existence. This is not a description of a sadistic deity, but a profound ontological revelation: existence as we perceive it is governed by 'Kala' (Time), the inevitable force that dissolves all material forms back into the source. The imagery of heads being crushed between teeth signifies the total destruction of the ego and the physical frame, illustrating that from the perspective of the Absolute, creation and destruction are rhythmic pulses of the same breath. For Arjuna, who is paralyzed by the hesitation to act, this vision serves as a jarring spiritual surgery. Krishna is removing the illusion that he (Arjuna) is the ultimate agent of death. By witnessing the enemy warriors already 'consumed' by the Cosmic Time, Arjuna is liberated from the burden of karmic ownership. It teaches that the Divine is not merely the compassionate sustainer of life, but also the fierce, uncompromising dissolution of the illusion of separation. Only when the seeker confronts the terrifying reality of their own impermanence can they truly surrender to the eternal, unchanging Self behind the mask of form.
The terrifying Cosmic Form reveals that all temporal existence is already held within the jaws of Divine Time, shifting the seeker's identity from a fearful agent of action to a surrendered instrument of the eternal Truth.
