Deep Meaning · English
In this pivotal moment, Arjuna is no longer the warrior debating duty on a battlefield; he is the devotee standing in the shadow of the Infinite. The description of his 'hair standing on end' (hṛiṣhṭa-romā) represents the visceral, biological response to the direct experience of the Divine (anubhava). It is the point where intellectual understanding dissolves into overwhelming wonder. This awe is not fear-based, but a profound recognition of the terrifying majesty of the Supreme, where the limited ego encounters the limitless expansion of cosmic reality. By bowing his head (śhirasā) and folding his hands (kṛita-añjaliḥ), Arjuna performs a total surrender of the 'I'—his ego, his military prowess, and his previous frames of reference. This is the authentic posture of the seeker who has realized that the person before him is not merely a friend or a charioteer, but the substratum of all existence. The transition here signifies the shift from 'yoga as a practice' to 'yoga as a state of being,' where the devotee is completely absorbed in the spectacle of the Cosmic Form. It highlights that the final stage of spiritual evolution is not an intellectual achievement, but a surrender of the heart before the overwhelming truth of the Divine reality.
True surrender begins when the intellect's desire for explanation is silenced by the heart's overwhelming experience of the Divine majesty.
