Deep Meaning · English
In this pivotal verse, Lord Krishna addresses the fundamental prerequisite for spiritual realization: Shraddha, or faith. By labeling this knowledge the 'King of Sciences' (Rajavidya), Krishna emphasizes that the spiritual path is not a mere intellectual exercise or a mechanical ritual, but a deep, experiential alignment with the Ultimate Truth. When a seeker lacks faith—not as blind belief, but as a sincere, heart-centered conviction in the existence of the Divine and the validity of the spiritual path—they remain trapped within the cyclical nature of existence. The soul, having turned away from the Source, continues to traverse the path of mortality, characterized by the perpetual motion of birth and death, suffering and transient pleasure. Krishna’s warning is one of compassionate urgency. He highlights that when one rejects the inner journey, they are not merely choosing a different path but are choosing to remain within the jurisdiction of time and decay. The 'Samsara-vartmani' is a metaphor for a treadmill of material entanglement where the ego desperately seeks fulfillment in objects that are inherently destined to change. Without the light of faith to guide the intellect back to the Eternal (Me), the individual is destined to circle endlessly in the darkness of duality, unable to reach the tranquil harbor of self-realization, regardless of how many mundane successes they achieve.
Faith is the essential spiritual currency; without it, the journey towards the Divine is stalled, and the seeker is left to wander the endless, repeating corridors of material transience.
