Deep Meaning · English
In this verse, Bhagavan Krishna addresses the core ailment of the human condition: the veil of ignorance (avidya) that conceals the true nature of the Atman. By 'knowledge' (jnana), Krishna does not refer to intellectual acquisition or scholarship, but to an experiential realization that burns away the false identification with the body and mind. Just as the sun does not create the objects it illuminates but simply reveals what has always been there, the light of true wisdom dissolves the shadows of duality and ego, exposing the Divine essence that was never absent. It is an internal metamorphosis where the seeker ceases to see the world as a fragmented collection of objects and begins to perceive the singular, radiant Truth underlying all existence. This state represents the culmination of Karma Yoga, where the destruction of ignorance leads to the spontaneous dawn of inner clarity. When the individual ego is surrendered, the Self (Atman) stands unveiled, shining forth with its inherent, unborrowed luminosity. This realization is not a new state to be attained but the return to one’s original, eternal nature, free from the distortions of desire and fear.
When the veil of ignorance is incinerated by the fire of realization, the Self reveals its own eternal, effulgent nature, illuminating the Supreme Truth as naturally as the sun lights the world.
